New Delhi: The special one-day session of Delhi Assembly to discuss safety of women was adjourned for the day today after paying tributes to former President APJ Abdul Kalam.
The special session will now be held on August 3 to enable members to visit Dr Kalam's residence in New Delhi to pay their last respects before the funeral on Thursday.
As a mark of respect to the departed leader, members of the Assembly observed silence for 30 seconds before the proceedings were adjourned for the day. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also named a Rs 10 lakh higher education scheme after the former President.
"He also appreciated Delhi government's move to increase education budget. His death has created a vacuum for us as we were looking for more opportunities to work with him,"
Mr Kejriwal said while announcing the education scheme.
Members of the Assembly also condemned the terror attack in Gurdaspur yesterday and paid tributes to security forces and civilians who lost their life in the incident.
