New Delhi:
The body of a newborn girl, which was supposed to be preserved in the mortuary of Mata Chanan Devi hospital in Delhi, was found lying in a bio-waste truck outside its premises on Monday morning.
Later in the day, the Delhi Government ordered an inquiry into the case.
"The culprit will not be spared. It is complete nonsense. It is against humanity and I have ordered an inquiry in the matter," Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal told reporters.
According to the police, the infant was born on Sunday morning at Khanna Nursing home. Her parents brought her to the hospital in the evening as her condition was deteriorating.
"The girl died at around 2 am today after which doctors asked the parents to collect the body in the morning," said a police official on Monday.
However, when the girl's parents reached the hospital at around 9 am today to collect her body, it was not found in the mortuary and nobody had any clue about its whereabouts.
Later, after a thorough search was launched, someone spotted the body lying inside the bio-waste truck.
The truck had collected garbage from the hospital and was about to leave the hospital premises, sources said.
Parents of the girl alleged that they paid Rs 1,500 to a ward boy to safely preserve the body at the mortuary. They also alleged that it was carelessness on the part of the hospital authorities that the body was not taken care of.
"Our child passed away around 2 am on Monday and then the hospital authorities asked us to pay an amount of Rs 1,500 to preserve the body at the mortuary. Despite giving the money the body ended up in a garbage truck," said a family member.
Although police has not registered a case in this regard so far, it is investigating on how the infant's body reached the trash bin of the hospital.
The CCTV footage of the hospital is being scanned for this purpose, police said.
