New Delhi: A 42-year-old Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus driver was beaten to death on Sunday morning after the bus hit a passing motorcycle in West Delhi's Mundka area.
The motorcycle had apparently moved into bus lane when it was hit. The motorcyclist and his mother, who was riding pillion, fell, said a police officer.
On getting up, the two flung their helmets at the windscreen of the bus, forcing it to stop and an argument ensued.
A few others gathered and as tempers rose, the biker hit the bus driver, Ashok, with his helmet, the officer said. When the bus passengers tried to intervene, the woman rider reportedly asked them to stay off. The man then brought out the fire extinguisher kept in the bus and hit the driver with it.
As the driver fell unconscious, the biker left the spot before the police could reach there.
The driver was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
"As per the medical report, the body had no external injury. We are waiting for his postmortem report," reported Indo-Asian News Service quoting a police officer The DTC bus was operating on an inter-state route - from Karampura in west Delhi to Haryana's Bahadurgarh.
No arrest has been made in the case yet. The biker and his mother are absconding. The police have detained his father for questioning.
