New Delhi:
A businessman was robbed of Rs 18 lakh at gunpoint in North-West Delhi's Adarsh Nagar area last night, police said.
The incident took place when businessman Dilip Singh (40) was returning his Pitampura residence around 10:30 pm yesterday in his car. When he reached the Adarsh Nagar flyover, another car intercepted him.
"An unidentified man came out from the vehicle and demanded a bag containing the cash at gunpoint. When Singh refused, the man fired a shot and the bullet hit him in shoulder," said a police officer.
The accused then snatched the bag and fled the spot.
Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital where his condition is stated to be stable.
Police have registered a case of attempt to murder and robbery at Adarsh Nagar police station.
"It seems that an insider is involved in the attack as the accused knew that Singh was carrying cash. Investigators are screening CCTV footage of the area, and making a sketch of the accused," the officer said.
Police have also got the registration number of the vehicle in which the assailant came. An empty cartridge was also recovered from the spot, the officer added.
