Manish Sisodia to be Deputy Chief Minister in 7-Member AAP Cabinet

Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia smiled as he confirmed this morning that he will be deputy chief minister in Arvind Kejriwal's Delhi cabinet. He heads the list sent to the L-G; two controversial AAP leaders who were ministers in its 49-day tenure last year, are conspicuous by their absence - Somnath Bharti and Rakhi Bidlan.
We have a different style than Kejriwal: Sheila Dikshit
  • Whenever a party gets divided it loses. We were not seen working as a party per se.
  • Every individual candidate was fighting its own election
  • Party was late in making Ajay Maken the campaign chief.
  • Defeat is collective responsibility -we should not put it on one person.
State elections are won or lost by the local leadership. Rahul and Sonia Gandhi are our national leaders. Can't hold them responsible for everything.

'I Pity Ajay Maken,' Says Sheila Dikshit: Highlights

Ajay Maken's style didn't help the Congress in Delhi, I pity him: Sheila Dikshit to NDTV
  • Our campaign was weak and not aggressive; I knew I would be sidelined.
  • Ajay Maken's comments on me were unbecoming. Maken complained of what I didn't do. Did he forget all I did that made me win for 15 years?
Our focus right now is Delhi, says Manish Sisodia

  • Our politics is not to stop Narendra Modi. It is about transparency in governance. We have no personal differences with Mr Modi.
  • Our focus right now is Delhi. That is what we have been voted for. We aren't thinking of Punjab or other states right now.
Very Good Meeting With PM Narendra Modi, AAP's Manish Sisodia Tells NDTV
  • The Prime Minister explained his inability to attend the swearing-in, saying his schedule was drawn up two months earlier.
  • We would say we are not meeting Narendra Modi or Rajnath Singh, but the PM of India and the Home Minister of India.
  • Delhi Result Will Not Slow Down Economic Reforms: Finance Minister

"The government is determined to go ahead on the path of economic reforms, which will generate investment, bring jobs and alleviate poverty," said Mr Jaitley, just days after his party, the BJP,  amassed a humongous defeat in the capital, winning just three seats.

The Aam Aadmi Party headed by Arvind Kejriwal racked up a record win for the country, winning every one of the remaining constituencies in the 70-seat legislature.

    • Manish Sisodia, a soft-spoken former journalist and Arvind Kejriwal's closest associate, is set to be Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi.
    • Manish Sisodia is credited with strengthening AAP at the grassroots level after it lost all seven parliamentary constituencies in the Lok Sabha elections to the BJP last year.
    • In the 49 days of AAP's last stint in government he served as minister for Education, PWD, Urban Development and Local Bodies.
The AAP Chief also raised the issue of full statehood with the Prime Minister. "Arvind also talked about full statehood to Delhi with the Prime Minister to which he assured that he will look into the issue," Manish Sisodia said.
"Arvind told the Prime Minister that both the Centre and the state government enjoy strong majority, therefore, it is a golden opportunity for both to work together to make Delhi a better city," Manish Sisodia told reporters after the meeting the Prime Minister.
Arvind Kejriwal, who was accompanied by senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, reached the PM's residence around 10:30 AM and the meeting lasted for around 15 minutes.
We had a good talk with the Prime Minister. We told him that there is a full majority government at the Centre and in Delhi. This is a golden opportunity: Manish Sisodia after meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi
