Sheila Dikshit along with Rahul Gandhi at a rally in New Delhi
New Delhi:
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today promised that her government would install vending machines for subsidised food grains on the lines of Mother Dairy for economically weaker sections if Congress returns to power in Delhi.
"People face problem while getting their quota of food grains at PDS shops where the items are either available in less quantity or not available at all.
"The government plans to install vending machines for wheat, rice and pulses at PDS shops on the lines of Mother Dairy where people get milk through tokens," said Dikshit addressing an election rally in Ambedkar Nagar in Delhi today.
Stressing on the infrastructure development during the last 15 years, Dikshit made a strong pitch for people to elect Congress and promised that the government would ensure that per capita income of people doubles in the next five years.
"In Delhi, per capita income is very high, but we want to double it in the next five years. If people earn Rs two lakh per year today, we will work to see that it becomes Rs four-five lakh," said Dikshit.
She also promised to create special business zones for hawkers who earn their livelihood by operating from road sides.
"We will construct zones for hawkers so that they can run their business and police or MCD do not harass them," she said.
To improve sanitation conditions in the city, Dikshit said the government would construct toilets in every constituency.
"There is scarcity of toilets in Delhi and we will construct toilets in every constituency, and at least 20 toilets in each of them will be reserved for women," she said.
Dikshit reiterated that her government would seek "single command system" in Delhi for better governance.
Asking people to cast their votes for a responsible government, Dikshit alleged that BJP and AAP were making false promises.
"We want to inform you that opposition parties are making false promises to people. BJP accuses that women are not safe in Delhi. I want to ask them one question, how will they provide safety to women of Delhi, when they could not provide safety to woman in its home itself," said Dikshit.
Slamming AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, Dikshit questioned his source of funding. "Kejriwal keeps talking about corruption, but I want to know from where he is getting funds. Even the court has asked him to provide details of funding. He keeps talking about corruption. I want to know his political plan."
On rising onion and potato prices, Dikshit said this phenomena was not only limited to Delhi alone and her government has deputed 200 vans to sells vegetables at cheaper rates.
Dikshit promised to enhance government's Ladli scheme and said it would be made "Kabil Ladli" so that girls not only get education but also stand on their own feet.
"For women and youth, we have set up a skill development centre in East Delhi in collaboration with the Singapore government," said Dikshit.
