Delhi cop murders parents in front of his wife, arrested

New Delhi: A middle-aged couple was stabbed to death in Delhi by their police constable son, while his wife looked on, following an argument over the victims' interference in his marital affairs, police said on Sunday. The accused was arrested.

Constable Neeraj, 28, posted at the Patiala House court complex in central Delhi, was arrested for murdering his father Dharam Singh and mother Kamlesh, both in their late 40s, after an altercation with them on Saturday night at their house at Chhawla area in west Delhi, police said.

The victims' bodies were spotted on Sunday around 6.30 a.m. at a spot in the rear of the house by a neighbour who informed police.

An iron rod and a kitchen knife used in the crime were recovered from the victims' house, police said.

Neeraj, who joined Delhi Police in 2008, was questioned after the bodies were recovered and he confessed to the killings, police said.

"After having stabbed both his parents to death on the ground floor, Neeraj dragged their bodies to the first floor and threw them on the ground plot," said an officer.

He also threatened his wife not to tell anyone about the incident, police said.

Police said Neeraj was suffering from depression as he was upset with his parents for allegedly interfering in his affairs with his second wife, who recently gave birth to a baby girl.

The constable's first wife left him a few years back and he was apprehensive that his second wife may also desert him due to the interference into their affairs by his parents, police said.
