A couple have been arrested at the international airport in Delhi for allegedly trying to smuggle gold bars valued at about Rs 40 lakh into the country.
The husband and wife were intercepted by customs officials on their arrival from Hong Kong on Tuesday, according to a press release issued today by the customs department.
"On the personal search of the couple, gold bars weighing about 1.5 kgs valued at Rs 40.32 lakh were recovered," it said.
The gold bars were seized and the passengers were arrested, the release said.
