New Delhi: A two-month-old girl in Central Delhi died after she was attacked in her home by a stray dog. The baby's family lives on the third floor in Nabi Karim area.
The baby, Sagun, was sleeping alone in her room when the dog entered the house at around 9.30 pm on Thursday and mauled her, police said. Her mother had gone down to pick up her other daughter.
The girl was rushed to the hospital where she was declared dead.
The neighbours beat the dog to death. They are angry with the civic agency; they allege that authorities are not attending to the problem of stray dogs who have attacked many people in the area.
"There are many dogs here. A dog bit me when I was going for my prayers," said Rishad Ahmed, an eyewitness.
"We have never complained to the MCD. There are many dogs here... many people have been bitten," said Ashok, another resident.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) claims that it has made elaborate arrangements to catch these dogs, and have even roped in some NGOs. Though the agency claims that number of stray dogs has gone down significantly, official estimates suggest nearly four lakh stray dogs on the streets of Delhi.
