Delhi: Drugs worth Rs 40 lakh recovered, two arrested

New Delhi: Two alleged drug traffickers have been arrested and 10 kg of banned narcotic substance pseudo-ephedrine worth around Rs 40 lakh has been recovered from them.

According to the police, Shiv Singh Chauhan (39) and Rajaram Ugrah (57), both residents of Delhi, were arrested by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Friday after it received a tip-off about them.

"A tip-off was received that the duo would be coming to a T-point, Subhash Maidan, near Jama Masjid to supply the drugs, which is used to manufacture party drug 'Ecstasy', to one of their contacts. A trap was laid and they were apprehended from the spot. During search, 10 kg of pseudo ephedrine was recovered from them," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.

Police registered a case against the duo under NDPS Act.

During interrogation, Shiv Singh Chauhan reportedly told police that he came in contact with one Ajeet, a drug supplier, who offered him a lucrative deal for supplying the pseudo-ephedrine.

He further came in contact with Ram Ugrah who has a shop in Bhagirath Place. Ajeet used to give pseudo-ephedrine to Chauhan while Ugrah used to pose as a supplier.

"For this job, Ram Ugrah used to take commission from Shiv Singh. Ajeet is a resident of Noida, UP and is supplier of this recovered pseudo-ephedrine. This drug was to be transported further", said Yadav.

Efforts are on to apprehend Ajeet to find out the origin of this recovered substance, said Yadav.

Pseudo-ephedrine is a controlled substance and used for manufacturing of narcotic drugs like 'Ecstasy' which is a party drug used commonly in rave parties.
