A 20-year-old student of Delhi University allegedly committed suicide after her boyfriend refused to marry her when she objected to his family's dowry demands.
According to the police, Sabina alias Damini, who was a B.Com final year student, committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her room in Krishna Nagar area.
In a suicide noted recovered from her room she stated that she was very upset with her boyfriend, with whom she was in a relationship for last three year, police said.
The girl's father had on Sunday invited the boy and his parents to his house for discussing their marriage, during which the boy's parents demanded a car in dowry, police said.
"When the boy's parents reached Sabina's house, his mother demanded a car in dowry to which Sabina objected. Thereafter, her boyfriend on Monday refused to marry her following which she went into deep depression and last night committed suicide by hanging herself," a police officer said.
Based on a complaint filed by girl's parents, a case has been registered in this regard, police said, adding, they would interrogate the boy and his parents and take strict action against them if found guilty.
