Delhi: Girl who threw acid on lover mentally disturbed?

New Delhi: Arti Dikshit who hurled acid on her boyfriend after he turned down her marriage proposal has been admitted to the Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) in Delhi.

Arti was arrested by the police yesterday soon after she hurled acid at her boyfriend Vinit. Police thoroughly interrogated her and decided to refer her to IHBAS. However, cops said they are unsure of her state of mind.

Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of police, East Delhi, Prabhakar said that he has not seen the medico legal certificate (MLC) of Arti. "She has been referred to IHBAS. I don't know if she is mentally disturbed or not," said the DCP.

Arti, a resident of Yamuna Vihar, attacked Vineet Kumar at Cross River Mall in east Delhi on Sunday. She feared that he was about to desert her, police said. She is likely to be produced before the metropolitan magistrate today.

Meanwhile, police said, Vineet's condition is stable. Arti called Vineet to the mall on the pretext of watching a movie. After spending two hours together, they entered into an altercation over the issue of marriage, police said.

During the argument, she took a bottle of acid out of her purse and threw its contents on Vineet's face. Vineet suffered 45 per cent burn injuries.
