Days after Lt Governor Najeeb Jung asked the Delhi government to review its ambitious app-based premium bus service again, the AAP dispensation on Wednesday invited public opinion and suggestions on the scheme till June 20.
According to the government, it is expected that many people will forgo travelling in cars and switch to the comfortable buses under the scheme which will help strengthen public transport in the national capital.
"Government has sought people's suggestions and opinion on the implementation of app-based premium bus service scheme till June 20. They can send the same at deltrpt@gmail.com.
"Public suggestions and opinion will be sent to the Lt Governor and government will apprise him about what people think about the scheme," said a senior government official.
The official said the suggestions and opinions are being sought by the government as was asked by the LG while refusing to give his go ahead to the scheme last month.
The scheme was initially scheduled to be rolled out from June 1.
Delhi government had on May 20 notified about the scheme that will allow people to book their preferred seat in a bus through their smart phones on the lines of app-based taxi services.
However, the LG later sought the file pertaining to scheme and refused to give his go-ahead for the its implementation.
Only air-conditioned buses would ply under the scheme according to which one bus aggregator will have to run at lease 50 vehicles to get a licence from the Delhi government's Transport department.
As per the new policy, bus aggregators would determine the routes on which premium buses will ply from time to time and specify such routes along with the time schedule of each trip on its web-based application.
Delhi government's Anti-Corruption Branch chief M K Meena Meena had recently ordered an inquiry into the scheme on the basis of a complaint filed by BJP MLA Vijender Gupta who alleged that the Kejriwal government wanted to launch the scheme to benefit a Gurgaon-based private bus aggregator.
