New Delhi: Delhi government today launched a campaign on drug abuse prevention for students studying in its schools in order to create awareness among them.
"The campaign will target vulnerable areas and will include activities such as poster making, quizzes, short movie screenings and interactions to help raise awareness about the menace and consequences of drug abuse at a young age.
"Sessions exclusively dedicated to imparting life skills to help youth cope with adolescent peer pressure are being organised," an official statement said.
The Directorate of Education has partnered with Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (SPYM), a Delhi-based NGO working with children on substance abuse prevention and treatment.
After starting a drive to impose heavy fine and taking strict action against those drinking at public places, the government has now decided to tackle drug menace especially among the young ones.
"The students are being taught how to say no to their peer groups in case they are offered drugs, alcohol or tobacco. The students will be counselled to cope up with emotional discomfort and traumas which is also a big reason why a person gets himself into addiction of different substances," the statement added.
