New Delhi:
A jilted lover allegedly stabbed to death a teenage girl who rejected his proposal and critically injured her sister this morning when they were on way to work in south Delhi, police said.
The incident was reported from Kusumpur Pahari area in Vasant Kunj North at around 11 am when passers-by noticed two girls lying in a pool of blood.
The deceased has been identified as Anita (19), a resident of Mahipalpur.
"Anita's sister Kavita (18) was found lying wounded near the body of Anita this morning," a senior police official said. Kavita's condition is stated to be in a critical condition and is in ICU.
The official said the sisters were attacked with a sharp edged weapon when they were going to their workplace.
Police have arrested Rajesh, who is in his early 30's, in connection with the incident.
The arrest came following Anita's father Mata Singh, a gardener, telling police that he suspected the hand of Rajesh in the incident.
During investigations, the official said, it came to light that Rajesh wanted to marry Anita but she had refused his proposal.
"He was enraged that she refused his repeated proposals, the last being made a few days ago. So he allegedly attacked Anita with a sharp edged object after finding her in a secluded place. Kavita received injuries while trying to save her sister," the official said.
He fled the scene soon after the incident but was arrested. Anita's body has been sent for post-mortem. According to Delhi Police statistics, 18 per cent of the 543 murders committed last year were due to love affairs and relationship failures.
