A 21-year-old driver was arrested in the national capital, allegedly with 75 sunglasses worth around Rs 6 lakh he stole over the last couple of months from the airport cargo, the police said.
Umesh Singh was apprehended from Sarai Kale Khan Bus Terminal on Sunday on a tip-off that a young boy would come there with stolen sunglasses, Ajay Chaudhry, Additional Commissioner of Police (South-East), said.
During the interrogation, Singh told police that he is a driver with MRC Transport Company in Mahipalpur, the ACP said.
"The vehicle he used to drive is attached with Cargo Delhi Terminal-III. He used to load the goods from the Cargo Terminal-III of Delhi Airport for delivery at the warehouse situated in Gurgaon. He used to take out 3-4 sunglasses and other stuff from the boxes before delivery.
"He was doing this kind of activity from the last couple of months. He was collecting the entire stuff one by one, which he was carrying at the time of arrest. He further disclosed that he was going to his native place for selling the stolen articles," Mr Chaudhry said.
