New Delhi: A Central Industrial Security Force officer today opened fire in the air at a Delhi Metro station after some people got into an altercation and hit a policeman and other security personnel. The incident at Azadpur station happened at 8:20 in the evening after two men started arguing at the ticket counter, CISF officials said.
The CISF personnel deployed at the station brought the two men to the control room and asked them to pay fine for creating trouble, they said. But one of them, a 17-year-old resident of Wazirpur Industrial Area, called his friends to the station.
Some 20 of them came and allegedly assaulted Delhi Police constable ML Meena, who was taking the two men to Kashmere Gate police station, the officials said. The men then grabbed the collar of CISF Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohammed Umar, who had to fire in the air to control the crowd, they said.
The situation at the station was chaotic but metro trains ran uninterrupted, they said. The police said they have detained a few people and are looking at taking the next legal step.
Senior CISF officials and Delhi Police are looking at the CCTV video of the incident, they added.
