New Delhi:
There was chaos at the Tilak Nagar Metro station in West Delhi late on Tuesday night, after a woman was allegedly harassed by two male passengers. The woman was with her fiance, who was allegedly assaulted by the two men and their friends. Relatives and friends of the couple then gathered at the metro station and vandalised it, protesting against what they called the inaction of security personnel.
The angry protesters alleged that Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) men posted at the station stood by and did nothing to help the woman and her fiancé, Ravinder Singh, as a scuffle broke out between him and the two men who allegedly harassed the couple. Mr Singh said the two men were joined by their friends and that they beat him up.
Members of Mr Singh's family and his friends then gathered at the metro station and raised slogans against the CISF. They forced their way into the station and broke window panes and grills. The men who allegedly harassed the couple were gone by then; Mr Singh's family alleges that the CISF personnel were bribed to let them go.
Mr Singh has been admitted to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital with injuries. No first information report has been registered yet. Though the Delhi Police did rush to the metro station, they did not comment as security inside metro stations is managed by the CISF.
