New Delhi: Acting on the complaints of students of a government school, Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia today ordered the dismissal of three teachers and suspension of three others.

During a surprise visit by Mr Sisodia to Shaheed Hemu Kalani Sarvodya Bal Vidyalaya in Lajpat Nagar, the students of classes 9 and 12 complained to him about the school staff, said a Delhi government statement.

The minister then asked the teachers and the principal to leave the room so that the students could express themselves freely.

"The students narrated their experiences and named two teachers who repeatedly indulged in physical violence against the students and used abusive language," the statement said.

The students also complained that they were not able to understand what was taught to them in physics as there were no practical classes.

"The government has ordered termination of services of a TGT science teacher, a TGT social science teacher and a PGT physics lecturer. Another Hindi teacher, a lecturer of accounts and vice principal of the school have been placed under suspension," the statement added.

TGT stands for trained graduate teacher and PGT for post-graduate teacher.

Mr Sisodia also directed the principal and teachers to treat the students with affection and sensitivity.
