Delhi: Minor boy kidnapped, sold for Rs 10,000

New Delhi: A three-year-old boy was kidnapped and then sold for Rs 10,000 in the national capital, police said on Saturday. Two people have been arrested for the crime.

Mohammad Altaf, 23, and Saema, 26, were arrested from central Delhi's Hauz Qazi area on specific information and the rescued child, Zubaid Ali, was handed over to his parents.

Altaf and Saema worked together at a handicrafts shop at Chandni Mahal. Saema got married in 2006 but had no children. She offered Altaf Rs 10,000 for kidnapping a male child.

"Altaf, in order to make some money, readily agreed and kidnapped a child from central Delhi's Chitli Qabar area near Chandni Chowk, after luring him with toffees. He then sold the boy to Saema," said Vivek Kishore, deputy commissioner of police, central district.

Saema is a resident of east Delhi's Zaffrabad area and does not live with her husband. Altaf lives with his wife and three children near Chandni Chowk.
