Delhi police fails to pay up for its uniform
New Delhi: Garment trader who supplied uniforms to Delhi cops at short notice during CWG is still waiting for his payment as the department claims it is facing a fund crunch.

He weaved his magic for the city cops when they needed to look good for CWG 2010. Now that the Games are over, it seems Delhi police has no time for Shiv Prasaad Aggarwal.

The garment businessman who supplied 600 uniforms to the department at short notice is now running from pillar to post to recover the Rs 12 lakh that he was supposed to receive for his services. When he contacted the concerned branch he was told that due to lack of funds his payment can't be made.  The victim claims he has approached several senior police officials with his problem but no one is paying any heed. The harassed businessman finally decided to complain to the Delhi Police Commissioner.

"I had come to meet Police Commissioner BK Gupta in this connection. He has promised me all help in the matter. The commissioner has asked the concerned branch to file a report in the regard within seven days as to why the payment has still not been made," said Aggarwal.

The clothes merchant has been providing uniforms and other readymade garments to Delhi police for the last fifteen years. But this was the first time when his payment was stopped by the department."I was amazed after meeting Special Commissioner, (Provision & Logistics, and Recruitment) MS Sandhu who said that they don't have funds to repay my bill against the uniforms. I was told by senior IPS officials that I will have to bear this for sometime," the victim said.

Aggarwal added that he was asked to supply uniforms before time failing which late delivery charges would have been invoked against him. Meanwhile, speaking with MiD DAY, a senior police official said that the department had issued the tender online during CWG as they required new uniforms for the cops who were deployed at CWG venues. However, he wasn't aware about the payment row.

SP Aggarwal has his office on Tyagraj Marg near Defence Headquarters in New Delhi area by the name Rajdhani Military Stores. "My business has been affected by this non-payment despite providing my best services to Delhi police. The department should have got a clear picture before issuing any tenders. Rs 12 lakh is a large amount for a businessman like me," complained Aggarwal.

Aggarwal's son Ramji Lal too became a victim of Delhi police's frugality as he was not paid Rs 3 Lakh by New Delhi District Police after taking his services. Ramji Lal supplied the department nylon ropes worth Rs 3 lakh. He was also asked to wait for the payment by senior police officials. Cops needed nylon ropes for the security purposes of January 26. They had to put up nylon ropes on the roadside before January 23 to control the public during the full dress rehearsal of the Republic Day parade."On January 17 the tender was issued and within three days the delivery was required by the police. They had also put a condition of late delivery charges of Rs 1000 per day. We supplied nylon ropes worth Rs 3 lakh before January 20. But we have not received the money so far," said Aggarwal. Ramji Lal runs his firm by the name M/s Ramji Lal Shiv Prasaad Company.
