New Delhi: Delhi police today launched a campaign to create awareness of sexual offenses among women students and help them be confident to seek help in such matters.

"Operation Nirbheek is an initiative to spread awareness among girl students about various aspects of sexual offences to which they may become victim, innocently or inadvertently," said Vijay Singh, DCP of north-west district police.

The campaign also intends to instill confidence in them and encourage them to report such matters to police and involve their parents and the community and seek their participation in handling such sensitive issues, the officer added.

"The Nirbheek Woman Police Officer (NWPO), Sub-Inspector Bishambri Bisht from Shalimar Bagh police station, has been deputed at Prabhu Dayal Public School in the north-west area. "She will coordinate with school authorities and interact with girl students at a particular briefing place," said Mr Singh.

The concept of the 'Nirbheek Women Police Officer' was introduced as part of a self-defence training programme in which as many as 250 girls of Prabhu Dayal Public School had taken part. The girl students from classes 6 to 9 learnt various self-defence techniques.

Operation Nirbheek will soon be introduced in other schools and colleges in north-west district, Mr Singh added.
