47 kg heroin and 2 kg cocaine seized by Delhi Police in raids across the national capital
In one of its biggest drug hauls in recent times, the Special Cell of Delhi Police today seized 47 kg heroin and two kg cocaine, valued at Rs 150 crore in the international market. It has also arrested four persons in connection with the case, busting an international drug cartel operating across Southeast Asia and the Gulf countries.
Police said the drugs were recovered in four separate raids across the national capital.
According to cops, the alleged kingpin of the syndicate is a person called Ali, who operates from Kuwait. The supply of drugs, meanwhile, is handled by a certain Samiullah who is based in Kabul. Police said drugs was pushed into India through the Punjab border via Pakistan and was subsequently smuggled into Sri Lanka and other Southeast Asian countries.
The racket was busted after cops arrested Delhi-based Avtar Singh on Saturday following a tip-off. Three other members of the gang, A Venugopal Reddy, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, Ragmeet Singh and Shurbir Singh, both residents of Delhi, were arrested earlier this month and nine kg heroine, worth Rs 30 crore, was recovered from them.
Police were able to close in on Avtar after piecing together information collected from the trio.
"A trap was laid yesterday and Autar was apprehended in the early hours. During a search of his Hyundai Santro car, a total of 32 kg fine-quality heroin and 2 kg cocaine was found neatly packed in polythene bags," said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).
During interrogation, Avtar disclosed that there was an additional consignment of six kg heroin at his residence, Mr Yadav added.
He was then taken to his Tilak Nagar residence in West Delhi where the heroin was recovered.
