New Delhi: Delhi police will soon assist and connect with the public on the popular social messenger app WhatsApp.
A circular issued by the top brass of the force has asked all the officials from Chowki in-charge to Joint Commissioners, to use the app to connect with the general public apart from themselves.
Describing about the positive features of WhatsApp, the circular, issued on August 28 by Special Commissioner (Law and Order) Deepak Mishra, said, "We all must make optimum utilisation of this latest social media - WhatsApp."
"... all the officials of Delhi Police - Chowki in-charges, SHOs, Sub Division ACPs, district DCPs and Joint Commissioner of Ranges should download WhatsApp and use it not only for public interface but also for disseminating emergent crime related information at their respective jurisdictions," it further said.
All the officials have been given two weeks time to comply with the directions.
The decision was taken after introduction of 'WhatsApp' in some of the units brought visible changes in bridging the chasm between the police and public.
On August 6, the Delhi Police had launched an anti-corruption WhatsApp helpline number in a bid to nab dishonest police officials.
