'Delhi Police Van Tried to Run Me Over', Alleges AAP Leader Dilip Pandey
AAP leader Dilip Pandey has alleged that a Delhi Police van tried to run him over.
A senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Dilip Pandey has alleged that a Delhi Police van tried to run him over while he was briefing journalists outside a police station in the capital on Tuesday night.

"I was speaking to the media. Suddenly, a worker pushed me and said 'careful!' A speeding police car was behind me and almost on me. God protected me and prevented someone's nefarious plans from succeeding. The car crossed us and then stopped ahead," Mr Pandey told reporters.

"I am shocked that Delhi Police is trying to eliminate me," he added.

In response, Police Commissioner BS Bassi said: "I have never heard such a complaint in my long career."

Senior leaders of Delhi's ruling party met this morning at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence to discuss the alleged incident.

Mr Pandey, who is AAP's national convenor, says the incident took place at around 10.30 pm when he was at the Rajinder Nagar police station talking to journalists about women volunteers of his party being detained after protests over a teen's murder turned violent.

"Hopefully the police will file an FIR in the case," he said.

The police chief said he would have the allegation investigated, but asserted that his force is not biased against anyone. "We have nothing against a person, we are not prejudiced against anyone," Mr Bassi said.

Mr Kejriwal met Mr Bassi on Monday and sought information on pending cases of crimes against women, but sources in his party alleged that the police chief refused to furnish these details.

The Delhi Police reports to the Centre through Delhi's Lieutenant Governor.

Mr Kejriwal has in an open letter asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to either spare some time for law and order in the capital, or turn over the control of Delhi Police to him.
