Delhi policeman's wife commits suicide

New Delhi: The 36-year-old mentally-ill wife of a Delhi Police head constable committed suicide by slitting her throat with a stone cutter, police said on Sunday.

Meenakshi, wife of Tej Singh who is posted at an east Delhi police station, slit her throat with the stone cutter that was lying at an under-construction building's site near her residence in north Delhi's Burari.

"The woman, who was undergoing medical observation for the last five years for her mental illness, was found in a pool of blood around 6 p.m. on Saturday by the owner of the under-construction building," said a senior police officer.

The owner of the building said that on hearing the sound of the stone cutter, he rushed there and found the woman's throat slit.

Meenakshi was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.

"Meenakshi's parents statement does not show any foul play in the incident. They informed that Meenakshi was being treated well by her in-laws' family and was getting treatment in a reputed hospital in Delhi and another mental hospital in Agra," said the police officer.

According to the officer, she had asked a labourer about the functioning of the stone cutter a day before the incident.

No one was present at the site at the time of the incident.

Meenakshi was married to Singh 15 years ago and the couple had three children.
