New Delhi:
To ensure proper security arrangements during coming assembly polls, the office of Delhi Chief Electoral Officer today organised a review meeting of senior officials of neighbouring states sharing border with Delhi.
The Election Commission (EC) sought the cooperation of bordering states in conducting peaceful elections in Delhi.
"In an earlier meeting, we had asked the governments of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to ensure proper manning of border areas, restrict movement anti-social elements and musclemen from entering Delhi, besides keeping a tab on flow of liquor and cash between states.
"Today's meeting was conducted to review those arrangements," said Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev.
According to EC officials, the meeting was attended by senior police officials and district administrations from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
While the Delhi Police and the central paramilitary force have been deputed at all 123 pickets along the border Delhi shares with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh borders, the two states have also been asked to ensure proper manning from their sides as well, said Mr Dev.
Besides that, excise departments of neighboring districts have been asked to check on flow of liquor in Delhi, added Mr Dev.
"The strategies have already been formulated to conduct free and fair poll in Delhi," Mr Dev said.
