New Delhi: A school in the national capital which has been issued a show-cause notice by the Delhi government asking why two of its branches should not be taken over following allegations of money laundering, has decided to approach Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung over the issue.

Maxfort school authorities have also termed the show-cause notice "frivolous" and "misconceived" and alleged that it is reflective of pre-determined resolve of the government.

"The contents of the show cause notice are absolutely false, frivolous and misconceived. We shall be replying to the same to the satisfaction of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and are confident that school will be able to satisfy him that the action of the government is illegal and that the drastic step of takeover is not even remotely warranted in the facts of the case," the school said in a statement.

"The school at various points of time has fully co-operated with all inspection committees of Directorate of Education (DoE) and has supplied or produced whatever documents they desired," it added.

Delhi Government had earlier this week issued show cause notices to Pitampura and Rohini branches of Maxfort School over "financial and management irregularities" asking them to explain why their management should not be taken over by it after they were found guilty of money laundering and violations of various provisions of Delhi School Education Act, 1973 (DSEAR) and the Right to Education Act, 2009 (RTE).

The schools have been given 15 days to respond to the notice.

Maxfort school, however, claimed that the notice is aimed at "mis-portraying" the correct factual and legal position in the matter.

"The show cause notice shows the pre-determined resolve of the government, as it has been issued without first calling upon the school to rectify the alleged deficiencies that are purported to have been found during inspections.

"All allegations in the show cause notices are aimed at mis-portraying the correct factual and legal position," the statement said.

In December last year, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, had directed the District Magistrate (North-West district) to inquire into the allegations levelled by the parents' association against these schools.

Following an enquiry, DoE had approached the Economic Offences Wing of police asking it to investigate the complaints of alleged illegal transactions of over Rs 50 crore with fake companies and individuals.
