Delhi: Thousands stranded as Metro trains fail

New Delhi: Thousands of commuters have been stranded or have faced delays since this morning with traffic disrupted on the busy Delhi Metro line that connects Dwarka to Noida because of a technical snag.

The snag in the signalling system has meant that trains are running slower on this route - called the Blue Line - since 8 in the morning, rush hour, and that has affected the frequency of trains.

A Delhi Metro spokesperson said technicians are trying to resolve the snag, detected between the Mandi House and Pragati Maidan stations,  but it was uncertain when normal traffic would be restored.

That is bad news for the thousands of people who use the metro on this route to travel from one end of the massive city to the other.

The problem began at rush hour in the morning when many people use the metro to go to work or school and college and has continued through the day to the evening rush hour, when many people return home.

The Dwarka Sec-21 to Noida City Centre/Vaishali train has been hit by the technical snags often in the past. There was similar disruption in October end and early November.

"The delay in the Dwarka line has become a nuisance. Every other day there is a problem and many commuters like me get delayed for work and other things," a passenger complained.
