New Delhi: The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has installed CCTV cameras in 200 of its buses, as part of a pilot project to enhance security especially for women passengers, while travelling.
According to DTC, three CCTV cameras have been installed in 200 such buses each, which belonged to the Rajghat and Sarojini Nagar depots. The cameras have a capacity of recording for seven hours.
The installations come under the first phase of the project and in the second phase, more buses will be included, officials said.
"We have successfully completed the first phase of the CCTV project, which is our pilot project under which 200 buses, including low-floor AC and low-floor non-AC buses, were initially kept," DTC spokesperson RS Minhas said.
"After the completion of first phase, we will now monitor the operation of CCTV cameras and if we get to see good results, we will move towards the second phase under which more buses will be included in CCTV project," Mr Minhas said.
He added that the project would prove useful for women passengers travelling, especially at late night.
DTC had also started providing two homeguards in buses operating on night services for security purposes.
