New Delhi: With undergraduate admissions at the Delhi University on in full swing, the varsity is using its Community Radio to reach out to admission seekers.

Delhi University's Community Radio (DU CR), which started operating in 2007, is available on the frequency 90.4 MHz and has a radius of 10-km. It is managed completely by a team of over 250 student volunteers.

"We have started a series of programmes called 'Mission DU Admission', that are broadcast twice a day. While half-an-hour is dedicated to college special, another half-an-hour is for the queries of admission seekers which are addressed by experts in studio," said RK Singh, Broadcast Consultant with DU CR.

"We invite the faculty members, non-teaching staff and senior officials of the university to speak to students and parents and address their queries," he added.

The radio service airs a variety programmes related to, among others, health, fitness and sports daily between 9 am and 4 pm.

With the admission season on, a special one-hour slot has been created for the 'Mission DU Admission' programme, which is broadcast at 11 am and 3 pm daily.

"Students have been inquiring about the admission process, how to apply, whether the common pre-admission form is enough to register the admission seeker at colleges, the best college, the best course, and entrance examinations for different programmes.

"Parents, too, have been calling up to obtain information about courses and colleges.

"Besides the studio-based programme, our volunteers go to different college campuses where students flock to them with their queries," said Mr Singh.

The admission process for 54,000 seats in UG courses at DU began on May 28 with over 1.3 lakh applicants having already registered themselves.

The online registration process will continue till June 15 while offline forms will be accepted at the nine registration centres (colleges) from June 5 to June 15.

The first cut-off list will be released by DU on June 25.
