Delhi Violence Highlights: Situation Normal, No Fresh Incident Today, Say Cops

North East Delhi Violence: Northeast Delhi remains on the edge this morning with 35 dead and over 200 injured after four straight days of clashes over the citizenship law.

Delhi violence: Several areas in northeast Delhi witnessed large scale violence.

No major incident was reported from the violence-hit northeast Delhi in the last 36 hours, the Home Ministry said.

Home Minister Amit Shah has appealed to citizens to not believe in rumours and fall prey of evil traps of miscreants.

Mr Shah held a review meeting to take stock of prevailing law and order situation in Delhi given the violence that engulfed the North-East district of the national capital.

The meeting was attended by Home secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, CP Delhi Amulya Patnaik, and Special CP, Law and Order SN Shrivastava.

According to the ministry, no major untoward incident has been reported in the last 36 hours in any police station of North-East Delhi.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 will be relaxed for a total of 10 hours tomorrow given the improvement of the situation.

"So far, 48 FIRs, pertaining to clashes, loss of lives/property, etc., have already been registered and further FIRs would be registered in due course. Police has detained/arrested 514 suspects for questioning so far. Further arrests would be effected in the course of the investigation," Home Ministry said.

Thirty-eight persons have lost their lives in Delhi violence since February 24. Clashes took place between two opposing factions over the newly-amended Citizenship Act.

Delhi Violence: IB Officer Ankit Sharma Who Was Stabbed To Death Cremated In Muzaffarnagar
The Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma, who died during the Delhi violence, was cremated in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar today, as thousands of people gathered to pay tribute to the officer in his native village Etawah.

Mr Sharma's body was recovered from North-East Delhi's Chand Bagh area in Delhi on Wednesday. His father Ravinder Kumar had earlier said that his son was attacked while he was returning home from work.

Delhi Waqf Board to set up relief camps, distribute ration kit

The Delhi Waqf Board will set up relief camps in violence-hit areas of the city and distribute ration kits in the affected areas, a member of the Board Himal Akhtar said.

As directed by Delhi Waqf Board chairman Amanatullah Khan, the relief camps will be set up in northeast Delhi areas that were affected by the violence. Distribution of milk and biscuits for children and ration kits have also started, Mr Akhtar said.

Situation is normal, No incident of violence today: Cops

Delhi Police PRO, MS Randhawa said the situation in violence-hit northeast Delhi is normal and no incident of clashes was reported today.

"Forty-eight First Information Report has been registered today and more FIRs are being registered," Mr Randhawa said.

"Three hundred fifty Aman committee meetings have been held so far," he added.

Drones Monitoring Situation In Violence-Hit Areas

The camera drones pressed into service by the police and security forces in the violence-affected neighbourhoods of east Delhi have been playing a crucial role in checking any further escalation in tension, news agency IANS reported.

According to sources, the local residents are also assisting the security forces in their bid to maintain peace by providing information on "suspicious elements and movements".

Delhi Police Special Commissioner SN Srivastava on Thursday visited Chand Bagh, one of the worst violence-hit areas, to see the destruction caused by protestors and talk to the area residents.

Talking to Mr Srivastava, the area residents put forth a charter of demands on which he assured of swift action and cooperation.

The residents complained of delay in police action during the violence and also demanded deployment of more police in their area.

CRPF personnel donate blood at GTB Hospital
Nearly three dozen Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel have donated blood at the GTB Hospital in Dehi to supplement its bank in view of the injured in the Delhi violence being admitted to the facility, officials said.

They said a contingent of 50 personnel of the paramilitary were sent to the hospital on Tuesday, of whom 34 donated blood while the rest were asked to remain on standby, news agency PTI reported.

Arvind Kejriwal announces compensation for victims

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a number of compensation schemes for those affected in the violence. he said that the Delhi government will bear the expenses of treatment of those injured in the violence.

"Delhi government will give Rs 10 lakh to families of those killed in violence, Rs 5 lakh to those seriously injured," Mr Kejriwal said in a press conference.

He further said Delhi government will set up special camps for people to get documents burnt during arson, violence.

India slams OIC statement over Delhi violence

Centre hit out at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation for its statement on Delhi violence, saying the remarks are factually inaccurate and misleading.

Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar also urged bodies like the OIC not to make irresponsible statements at this sensitive time.

"We urge these bodies not to indulge in irresponsible statements at this sensitive time," he said.
The OIC has condemned the violence in Delhi and alleged discrimination against Muslims.
