Delhi woman strangled to death inside her room

New Delhi: A 55-year-old woman was found strangled to death with her own scarf inside her residence in the capital, police said on Friday.

The incident came to light on Friday morning when the woman's family members entered her room and found her lying dead on bed.

Police said the incident might have taken place in the early hours of Friday.

The victim, identified as Dhanpati, lived with her son and daughter-in-law at Gautam Nagar in west Delhi's Narela area.

"Robbery might have been the reason behind the incident as her room was found ransacked. The victim's family members and her neighbours are being questioned to find any clue about the incident," Deputy Commissioner of Police BS Jaiswal told IANS.

According to a police source, initial inquiry does not suggest entry of any outsider into the woman's room as the door was found locked from inside and it was broken open by her family members.

"This morning, when she did not open her room, we got suspicious. After repeated knocks when she did not open the door, we had to break it," her family members reported, according to police.

Police are finding out the valuables missing from the victim's room. "A case has been registered and a probe is on," said Jaiswal.
