Delhi youth attempt Rs 30 lakh extortion bid using toy gun
New Delhi: A group of three youngsters in Delhi collected money from people and promised to double the amount in one month in their chit fund scheme. But after collecting the money, two of them  fled with the amount, leaving the other to resort to crime to payback their 'investors.'

The crime however didn't pay and the Delhi Police arrested the accused and his accomplice for attempting to extort Rs 30 lakh from a garment businessman. The two accused Suraj Kumar Singh (20), a school dropout and his friend Gaurav Verma (19) ran into a police trap in Geeta Colony last evening when they reached there to collect the extortion money from the businessman.

Giving details about the crime, additional DCP (Crime) P S Kushwah said, "Singh used work to in the shop of the complainant for about five years and had left the job in 2007.

Later, Singh started a small dairy also. Eight months ago, he along with two of his friends started a chit fund scheme wherein they collected huge amount of money from 50 persons on the pretext of doubling the amount in a month but his friends fled with the money.

Seeing no hope, Singh then allegedly hatched a plan to extort money from his former employer with another friend Gaurav, whom he promised to pay Rs 2 lakh if the plan went through. "They bought an air pistol from Sadar Bazaar for Rs 2,200 to threaten the complainant with. This pistol was capable of firing pellet shots sufficient enough to cause an injury and make sound like a gun fire.

They then allegedly threatened this businessman, who is based in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar, that they will kill his son if he did not pay up. The duo also damaged the windscreen of the complainant's car to enforce their threat. A toy pistol, two mobile phones and the motorcycle they were riding were recovered from them," the DCP added.
