Delhi youths arrested for killing elderly woman

Delhi: The "folly" of using the mobile phone of an elderly woman they had murdered, landed two youths in the police net.

Brijesh (19) and Manoj Kumar (20) were apprehended from Rohini yesterday in connection with the murder of Daya Kaur (64) on February 28 in Rajapur village during a robbery, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Chhaya Sharma said.

During investigation, Sharma said the woman's nephew Raja Sisodia told police that a mobile phone, silver ornaments and some documents of the deceased were found missing.

"The call details of the deceased's phone were analysed and it was found that it was being used by Brijesh. Kumar was also making calls on that mobile phone and it was found that the phone was operated in Rajapur village," Sharma said.

The folly of the youth led to their arrest, the senior official said.

Police found that the duo had left for their native village in UP and raids were conducted in Mahoba but they escaped from there, suspecting the presence of police.

"Raids were also conducted at their possible hideouts in Satna, Jaitwara, Karbi, Banda, Sarvhi, Chandla and Khaibar but they could not be located," she said.

During interrogation, Sharma said, the duo told police that they decided to rob her as she was living alone.

"They gained access in her house through rooftop. Hearing some noise, Kaur woke up and came out from the room. At the same time, they overpowered her and pressed her face so tightly that she became unconscious.

"After that, they tied her hands and legs with clothes so that even if she gets conscious, she could not make noise. After that, they robbed the silver ornaments, which the deceased was wearing and also took some documents from the house and fled away from the spot," Sharma said.
