Dengue cases on decline in Delhi

New Delhi: With the onset of winter, the number of dengue cases has registered substantial decrease with just 10 people being detected with the mosquito-borne disease in the capital on Thursday.

With the 10 new cases reported on Thursday, the total number of dengue cases this season stands at 2,015, according to figures released by South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

While all the 10 fresh cases were reported from the three Municipal Corporations, no case was detected from the New Delhi Municipal Corporation area.

This is the first time that the dengue cases have shown such a sharp decrease as the number never came below 25 for the past two months.

While South Delhi Municipal Corporation recorded the highest number of cases at 795, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation registered 639 and the East Delhi Municipal Corporation 502.

So far, four persons have died due to dengue in the capital.

Last year, 976 cases were reported and five deaths took place while in 2010, a total of 5,994 dengue cases and eight deaths were recorded in the capital.
