New Delhi: The President's House, the home ministry and major hospitals were among the top offenders in an anti-dengue drive by civic officials in the heart of Delhi.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan, the presidential palace that has over 300 rooms, got 90 notices after a check by a team of the New Delhi Municipal Council.
The home ministry got a challan or prosecution slip for accumulating water in its air-coolers.
According to municipality officials, more than 190 government buildings have been fined while over 3,300 of them have been served notices.
The Finance Ministry has been served notices for water in its flower pots and the Safdarjung Airport has been censured over its plant nursery, officials said.
Government hospitals like the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College, and the Safdarjung Hospital have all been served fines and notices, they added.
Earlier today, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made surprise checks at hospitals in the day and his deputy Manish Sisodia issued orders to prevent dengue in schools.
Delhi has been grappling with what doctors say is the worst outbreak of dengue that the city has seen in five years as at least ten people have died and 1,800 have been affected this year. The leaves of doctors, nurses and paramedics have been cancelled and the government has ordered 1,000 more beds in hospitals.
