New Delhi: Dense fog in Delhi this morning, the first of the season, considerably reduced visibility on the streets of the National Capital Region.
Low visibility is reported in many areas of North India including in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh with a notable drop in temperature.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 11 degree Celsius, a notch above the average for the season.
Movement of traffic in Delhi slowed down, especially on the Delhi-Noida and Delhi-Gurgaon expressways. Some flights to and from the city are delayed too.
The Indian Meteorological Department forecast predicts dense to moderate fog in NCR for the next seven days.
The city’s air quality has not improved with pollutants PM 2.5 and PM 10 recorded at ‘severe’ levels, the Delhi Traffic Police has said.
Wednesday's fog was preceded by a very clear Tuesday with the minimum temperature recorded at 9.7 degrees Celsius, average for this time of the season.
On Monday, the maximum temperature settled at 29.2 degrees Celsius, four degrees above the season's average, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 13.8 degrees Celsius.
