New Delhi: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia today ordered inspection of all swimming pools in the national capital, after a 13-year-old boy drowned in the swimming pool of a government school in Delhi.
"Inspect each and every swimming pool in Delhi," Mr Sisodia said, adding that the direction applies to both government and non-government swimming pools.
The Deputy Chief Minister, in a tweet, said the District Magistrate (DM) and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of the area will carry out the inspection work.
Mr Sisodia's decision came after Mukul Sharma, a Class-VIII student of DAV Public School in Dayanand Vihar, drowned in the swimming pool of a government school in East Delhi's Farsh Bazar area in Delhi.
The boy had gone to Delhi government-run Babu Ram School to learn swimming along with his cousin Vikas on May 22 when the incident took place.
Police have registered a case against the life guards present at the swimming pool for alleged negligence, which they said led to the boy's death.
"We have registered a case under Section 304(A) against two life guards - Bhaskar Kaushik and Jai Singh. Further investigations are underway," the police had said.
