New Delhi:
A 31-year-old surgeon, hailing from Jharkhand and working in a government hospital, was arrested for allegedly murdering his engineer wife as she was not on the same "wavelength" as him, police said today.
Chandra Vibhash, the surgeon working with Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, also allegedly took his 27-year-old wife Supriya's body in a bag to Allahabad in his car and threw it near a bridge, V Renganathan, Additional Commissioner of Police (West), said.
He was arrested after Supriya's father told the police that the surgeon had confessed to strangling her.
"Vibhash told us that he strangled his wife as both the husband and wife were not on the same wavelength and there was mental and physical incompatibility between them," Renganthan said.
Also hailing from Jharkhand, Supriya, who did her MBA after BTech, got married to Vibhash in November last year and had come to Delhi.
Two months after marriage, Renganathan said, Supriya's father told the police that Vibhash started disliking his daughter and torturing her. "After this, members of both families tried to settle the matter amicably many times but he continued to ill-treat the deceased.
"Supriya kept on informing her mother about the torture and ill treatment but ultimately she was forced by Vibash to leave her house. Finding no other way, she had to come back to her parents' house in July," Renganathan said.
However, due to persuasions and intervention of close relatives, Vibhash brought Supriya back to Delhi but the surgeon allegedly continued to beat her. In July itself, Supriya's parents came to Delhi in another bid to sort out issues but the deceased's ordeal did not end, he said.
According to the father, Supriya called her mother to inform that her husband was so angry that she could be killed.
"Since then, she could not be contacted as her mobile phone was switched off. Later, Vibhash was contacted but he allegedly kept misguiding them by saying that he was in Mathura. Last Sunday, the parents along with close relatives reached Delhi but they found no one at the rented house of Vibhash. Yesterday, they managed to meet Vibhash but he did not disclose the whereabouts of Supriya.
"After continued requests, he broke down and confessed that he had strangled Supriya," Renganathan said.
Her parents alleged that whenever Supriya asked for money for running the house, Vibhash used to taunt her and direct her to get money from her parents.
"Supriya was a post graduate and had degrees in BTech and MBA. She made a lot of adjustments even though her husband misbehaved with her and ill-treated her most of the time," Renganathan quoted the parents as saying.
