Drunk bus driver with 42 children on board gets minor punishment

New Delhi: A man received a five-day jail term after he was found driving a bus carrying 42 children, while he was under the influence of alcohol.

The Delhi police plans to appeal for more stringent punishment for the driver in the drunk driving cases.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg, the driver was caught during a checking at Masoodpur three days ago.

"An NGO hired a bus for the school children to take a trip to Gurgaon. When the bus returned on July 16th night, we found him under influence of liquor with alchometer reading of 125.8 mg/100g against permissible limit of 30 mg," he said.

"We feel the driver entrusted with safety of so many children, compromised it by getting drunk. We will be appealing for a harsher punishment. Safety of these children should never have been compromised. How dare he play with lives of so many children?" he added.
