A 22-year-old drunk man, who stuck his head out of a speeding car, died after being hit by a roadside tree in Delhi yesterday, the police said. His friends, who were 'afraid', abandoned the car and left his body in its rear seat.
Two of them have been detained.
The body of Ashu, a resident of Baljeet Nagar in central Delhi, was spotted in the abandoned car by a police patrol van near Jhandewalan Metro Station early in the morning, police said. Several injury marks were found on his head and hands, the police said.
Investigation revealed that the man was accompanied by three friends and died after being hit by a tree. His friends, Firoz and Brijesh Pandey, in the mid-20s, were detained soon after, police said.
According to the police, all four were going home on Wednesday night when the incident happened. Ashu, who was sitting on the rear seat, and stuck his head and hand out, was hit by a tree and died on the spot.
Ashu's friend Shiv Shankar, who was driving the car, is absconding, police said.
After the incident, Ashu's friends panicked and left his body in the car, police said.
Police said all the men lived in a shared rented accommodation and were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered.
