Drunk teen drives without licence, kills rickshaw-puller, rams into police picket

New Delhi: A rickshaw-puller was killed and two others seriously injured on Saturday evening when a drunk 19-year-old lost control over his vehicle and rammed it into a two-wheeler, a rickshaw and a pedestrian in east Delhi's Anand Vihar area.

Rickshaw-puller Sadir, 25, died in the accident, while the two-wheeler driver Soni, 19, and the pedestrian Shivpal, 38, suffered serious head injuries, police said.

Harjeet Nagpal also rammed his car into the Anand Vihar police picket while fleeing and was nabbed after a two-kilometer chase through the busy east Delhi streets.

"The accused, a resident of Jwala Nagar area in east Delhi, has tested positive for alcohol. He does not even possess a valid driving licence," senior cop Ajay Kumar said.

The teenager assists his father in his business and was returning from a friend's house, police said.

Strict action will be taken against Harjeet's parents who allowed him to drive the car without a licence, police said.

A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered.
