New Delhi: Registrations are on for the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students in Delhi University. But the admissions have come under the shadow after the Delhi police busted a gang selling fake caste certificates.
On Tuesday, the Crime Branch of Delhi police visited the campus for a second day, and interrogated two clerical staff from the SC/ST cell.
No one else from the university or college administration is under the scanner so far.
"We are examining some people from the SC/St cell. So far, we have questioned 6-7 parents and their statements have been taken," said Ashok Chand, DCP, Crime.
Police say almost 40 students had bought fake certificates from this gang over the past three years. But the number is likely to go up.
The college administration on its part has welcomed the police investigation, but says it is not easy to curb to this menace.
"For last year's admission also, 80 fake certificates were detected. Their admissions were cancelled. We are trying to evolve methods of control. But we can't put everyone on the job," said J L Khurana, Dean, Student's Welfare.
Raids are being conducted at tehsils in Ghaziabad as well as Delhi. Police are now trying to dig out more information about students who may have used fake caste certificates to take admission in not just DU, but medical and engineering colleges as well.
