New Delhi:
Eight people drowned in the Yamuna river during immersions of Ganesh idols in Delhi on Wednesday, police said.
The incidents were reported from different Yamuna ghats of north Delhi's Wazirabad, Burari and east Delhi's Sonia Vihar areas. Police said the toll might go up.
"At least five bodies were fished out from Wazirabad, two from Burari and one from Sonia Vihar area," said a police officer.
A police officer said at least 10 people drowned at Wazirabad ghat from where five were rescued while five were taken out dead.
The officer said rescue operations were on as police had received several calls related to drowning since last afternoon.
Last year, five people had drowned at Wazirabad ghat during idol immersions.
