New Delhi:
An engineer was injured in a fight with Delhi Metro staff at a station following an altercation over money, prompting DMRC to suspend two of its employees.
S K Jain, a resident of Vivek Vihar in east Delhi, entered into an altercation with the Customer Care staff at the Karkardooma Metro station over the issue of Smart Card refund.
A senior police official said he was injured in the incident and has been admitted to a hospital.
However, DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal claimed that "the passenger used abusive language and tried to put his hands into the cash drawer when he was told by the staff that they did not have change to give him".
Dayal said the attempt to take money from the cash drawer and "hurling of abuses by the passenger further aggravated the situation which led to physical confrontation between the passenger and Customer Care staff."
The police official said no case has been registered and a medical report is awaited.
Dayal said DMRC had immediately suspended the Customer Care staff after the incident. The station controller on duty at that time was also suspended as he too was involved in the incident.
DMRC has also ordered "a proper inquiry as it views any such incident very seriously and will take appropriate action," he said.
