New Delhi: The rains seem to be here finally in Delhi. It's been raining this evening across many parts of the city, bringing respite to the national capital which has been reeling under a severe heat wave for the last one month. However, the rains also led to chaos in the flight schedule with eight flights delayed, six diverted and four cancelled.

After enduring one of the hottest summers in recent memory, residents of Delhi woke up to pre-monsoon showers today morning. The first pre-monsoon showers have brought down the temperatures by at least three notches from yesterday. While the maximum temperature was recorded at 38.4 degree Celsius, the minimum was 29.1 degrees.
The monsoon generally arrives in Delhi by June 29 but has been delayed this year - leading to unbearably hot weather, and extreme power and water shortages.
Widespread showers also lashed most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, bringing down the mercury and raising humidity levels in the region. Monsoons were active over parts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh and further advanced to some more areas in the western districts of Uttar Pradesh since yesterday.
