New Delhi:
A 67-year-old woman was killed and another woman has sustained serious injuries when a fire broke out in a car showroom in Lajpat Nagar, south-east Delhi.
The blaze was reported on the first floor of the multi-storeyed building at 3-3 30 pm today, which spread to the upper floors. Nine fire fighters were rushed to douse the flames.
Sushila Puri, and her 30-year-old domestic help Rizwana Khatoon were trapped inside the first floor of the building and after the fire was doused, they were rescued and taken to Moolchand Hospital. While Puri was declared brought dead, Rizwana's condition was stated to be critical.
"There was a lot of smoke and it appears that the elderly woman and her help could not find a way out. The elderly woman died of asphyxia. Rizwana is critical," police said.
The fire was caused by short-circuit.
