Five arrested for carrying arms ahead of Delhi University students elections

New Delhi: Ahead of Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) polls, the police arrested five youths on Wednesday, including a law faculty student, with two pistols and 16 cartridges.

According to the police, the five arrested men - Prashant, Anuj, Neeraj Pal, Subodh and Pankaj - were canvassing for the student union polls.

Subodh is a student of Law faculty in the university.

"Today (on Wednesday) at around 4:30 pm a SUV was stopped. During the vehicle's checking, one pistol, one country-made pistol and 16 live cartridges were recovered from it following which all the five occupants of the vehicle were arrested and the SUV was seized," said a senior police official.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on, police said.

The students' union elections will be held on September 13.
