The BJP government in Haryana has banned pilot vehicles for VIPs who commute between Delhi and Chandigarh, easing the pressure on traffic as well as the state police.

The move comes as a particular relief for the district police, who were often obliged to divert vans on PCR duty for VIP movement.
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said he was thinking in terms of pressure on the police force.
"I have myself removed some 175 security men from my cover in view of the limitations," he said. "I am ready to make further cuts. Whether it's me or my ministers... security will not be a measure of status but be based on threat perception."
Union minister Chaudhury Birender Singh said if there is a threat against a public personality, it is the "job and responsibility" of the government to protect him.
The circular issued in this regard by Additional DGP CID has directed all police commissioners and district police chiefs said that a review of the policy on pilot vehicles for dignitaries has been carried out and it has been felt that the policy of pilot vehicles on NH1 is superfluous for dignitaries transiting between delhi-chandigarh and vice-versa.
